Building the digital world of construction
The construction industry today is facing big challenges as an emerging sector in the field of digitalisation. The sector today is expected to build more with less environmental impact, waste, CO2 emission and with increased traceability and productivity. These goals can only be achieved through the digitalisation of the sector which help the companies to comply with the upcoming regulations such as the Digital Product Passport. GS1 can play a role in supporting the industry in many areas, from identification to data sharing. Join our session to hear about projects where GS1 standards could successfully support the industry to achieve these ambitious goals.

Opening plenary: GS1’s 50th anniversary
In 1973, industry leaders in the USA selected a single standard for product identification. It is known as the GS1 barcode and is scanned six billion times per day. For 50 years, way beyond the well-known “check-out beep”, the GS1 identification standards have provided great efficiencies across the entire supply chain in retail and healthcare.
To celebrate our great past, former P&G CEO, US Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Chair of GS1, Bob McDonald will explain how the barcode has transformed retail and healthcare in the US market. Former GS1 Secretary General, Etienne Boonet will tell us how we expanded our reach around the world through the creation and growth of GS1 Member Organisations. Former Nestlé Data Standards Manager, Robin Kidd, will narrate the GS1 expansion into services and data.
GS1 also has a bright future. Rodney McMullen, CEO of Kroger and former GS1 US Chair, will explain why GS1 standards are needed more than ever in a world where supply chain and costs are under pressure and where digital transformation represents such an opportunity. Kathy Wengel, Executive VP & Chief Global Supply Chain Officer at J&J and GS1 Chair, and Renaud de Barbuat, GS1 CEO, will share the GS1 strategy related to patient safety, consumer transparency and sustainability.

Climb the ladder of trust and product quality with Verified by GS1
Industry have taken clear steps to use Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) to uniquely identify the products they offer. Now their top priority is to get a clear answer to the question, "Is this number a GS1 GTIN?". Verified by GS1, based on data from the GS1 Registry Platform, is now seen as the main tool to do these GTIN checks. Join this session to hear from retailers, marketplaces and regulators about how they are using globally verifiable company and product information to create trust and efficiency amongst business partners.

Improving trust in GS1 identifiers and data
Governments, regulators, customs agencies, logistics and industry partners are less and less willing to trust data, and everyone wants to reduce or eliminate the need for physical paper certificates. We want proof: proof that the data has not been tampered with and that it came from the person or organisation who claims to have provided it. Pushing the limits of RFID with Gen2v3 protocol
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is more and more widely used to make omni-channel retail, supply chain visibility, sustainability and circularity, product authentication, consumer engagement and much more become a reality.
Since the number of RFID tags is drastically increasing, RFID implementations are facing new challenges like tag clutter, tag selection and filtering, inventory speed and accuracy. This is a non-exhaustive list of the business requirements the new protocol Gen2v3 will resolve.
Join us and discover how the updated Gen2v3 GS1 standard will make RFID deployments more easy and efficient.

Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) – Opportunities for GS1
With more than 2.2 million legal entities, the LEI system has become a globally accepted identifier in the financial world in recent years. GS1 is an officially recognised issuing body accredited for over 100 countries. Furthermore, it is becoming apparent that the LEI will be used more in other areas outside the financial world, such as cross-border transactions. Therefore, in this session, we want to bring you up-to-date information on the LEI developments and present projects already underway.

GS1 Sustainability Workshop– In-person only
Join our GS1 Global Office(GO) experts for this interactive workshop to identify needs and priorities for GS1 in sustainability and circularity. We will convene as a group and explore what GS1 should be doing within our new framework for sustainability/circularity, (which will have been announced earlier in the week). The framework will help us understand where to play and what priorities we should pursue. We will build on the MO Toolkit for Sustainability and develop a view into the work for the remainder of 2023.

What is GitHub? What is ref.gs1.org? And why do you care?
Learn about the exciting ways we're driving engagement with our standards.
GitHub is home to a huge number of collaborative projects from across the world where contributors can discuss, propose and explore ideas on the road to consensus. Separately, ref.gs1.org provides a permanent home for our standards, machine-readable artefacts and other formal publications, as well as tools that help make implementing GS1 standards both easier and more consistent.
Developing and publishing our standards using these tools requires special consideration but, done right, they provide exciting opportunities to substantially improve and modernise the Global Standards Management Process (GSMP) process. In particular, it becomes much easier to re-use authoritative data tables and glossary terms rather than duplicating them. Come and see how GS1 Global Office is leveraging these tools and have your questions ready!

Using project status reporting to drive plans, communications, and strategic portfolios
Status reports on projects are critical for effective communication and project management. They help you avoid risks and update your project team, sponsors, and stakeholders by providing the right status information to the right people at the right time. When done with a simple process for rolling up information, they can provide essential information at the right level to various audiences for your projects, programmes, and even drive strategic portfolio status reporting.
This session will cover the value of simple status reporting in use across GS1, the processes and tools being employed, and how simple status reports can both strengthen a project's planning & communication, as well as build a foundation for driving strategic portfolio visibility.

Support emerging GS1 identification use cases
The relevance of GS1 identifiers is expanding to new use cases. For most questions, GS1 Member Organisations (MOs) advice on which GS1 identifier to use is simple because the GS1 member is asking about something GS1 identifies today. In new use cases though, different MOs may arrive at different advice which leads to divergent implementations. This session explores ideas, discussed within the GS1 Architecture Group, to help GS1 MOs find a common answer. The session will ask MOs to give their feedback on increasing visibility across MOs for new use case questions and using a new approach to arrive at one answer.
